The highly popular Melbourne Royal Show, a must-not-miss September carnival in the entire city, is worth gathering the whole family for! It looks like this year is set to be the largest-scale event in its 175-year history!

Getting to the Royal Melbourne Show

Finding a parking spot for $25 per day can be quite challenging. We recommend looking for a spot in the residential areas nearby on the streets behind, rather than spending $25 for a day of parking. If you’re taking the tram directly, you can hop on the Number 14 tram line at the Southern Cross Station and get off near the showground, close to the exhibition centre.

Royal Melbourne Show Entertainment Guide

Upon entry, you’ll receive a small map (save a digital copy, as it might come in handy).

Most of the attractions are thrilling rides, such as pirate ships, roller coasters, and 360-degree swings. If you go straight ahead from the entrance, you’ll reach the amusement ride area, and further ahead, you’ll find performance venues. There will also be some live shows in between.

Inside the pavilions, you’ll encounter some small animals that you can feed (though we suggest shamelessly taking photos with them). It’s a lot of fun!

Along the pathways, you’ll find many small shops and games, many of which only accept cash and cannot be paid for with a ride pass. The prizes for the games are usually cute stuffed animals.

Normally, you can enter the show around 9:30 a.m. when there are fewer people, allowing you to start enjoying the attractions quickly. Make sure to visit the animal exhibits early and get up close with the adorable animals!

Most entertainment attractions require an extra fee, typically ranging from $10 to $20. Some special attractions do not accept ride passes, so remember to bring some cash. Some rides on the ride card also require an additional fee.

The animal feeding activities start at 10:30 a.m., but the showground actually opens at 9:30 a.m. If it’s crowded, the queues can get very long.

Food prices on average range from $10 to $22.

Getting your tickets

Official tickets are $47.5 for adults, $25 for kids, and $99 for families. Group tickets are $29 for adults and $15 for kids when you have a group of 30 people or more.
