Term 1 (Jan–Apr): Back to School in Adelaide

Term 1 kicks off straight after the Australia Day long weekend, so late January is a busy time for school supplies and orientation days. The Autumn School Holidays that follow line up with Easter most years, which also happens to be peak time for the Adelaide Hills — book accommodation early if you’re heading to the wine regions or up to the Barossa.

Term 2 (Apr–Jul): Cooler Weather and Footy Season

Term 2 covers Anzac Day, and as the weather cools down, this is peak footy season in Adelaide — a good excuse for a family outing to a match. The Winter School Holidays are a great time for indoor activities, or heading up to the Flinders Ranges before the summer crowds arrive.

Term 3 (Jul–Sep): Winter and Spring Planning

This is the coolest stretch of the year in SA, so the Spring School Holidays that follow Term 3 are a popular time to plan trips as the weather starts warming up again — think the Riverland, Kangaroo Island, or the Adelaide Hills in bloom. It’s also worth locking in Christmas travel around now, since prices only climb closer to December.

Term 4 (Oct–Dec): Wrapping Up the School Year

Term 4 is the longest stretch of the year, running through to just before Christmas. By the time the Summer School Holidays start, Adelaide’s beach season is well underway at spots like Glenelg and Henley Beach. The Summer break is SA’s longest, running into late January, making it the busiest and most expensive time to travel — book ahead where you can.
