Term 1 (Jan–Mar): Back to School in Brisbane

Term 1 starts in late January, a busy time for school supplies and orientation days across Queensland. The Autumn School Holidays that follow line up with Easter most years, and this is peak time for the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, so book accommodation early.

Term 2 (Apr–Jun): Anzac Day and Cooler Weather

Term 2 covers Anzac Day, and as the weather starts to cool, the Winter School Holidays are a great time to head north for warmer weather in places like Cairns or the Whitsundays before peak season really kicks in.

Term 3 (Jul–Sep): Peak Tourist Season

This is peak tourist season in Queensland, with mild, dry weather drawing visitors from across the country. The Spring School Holidays that follow are a popular time to travel within the state, so book ahead if you’re planning a trip to the reef or the hinterland.

Term 4 (Oct–Dec): Wrapping Up the School Year

Term 4 runs through to just before Christmas. By the time the Summer School Holidays start, Queensland’s stinger season is underway on the northern coast, so check swimming safety advice if you’re heading up north. QLD’s Summer break is the longest of the year, running into late January — the busiest and priciest time to travel, so plan ahead.
