Steavenson Falls Marysville

Turns out Melbourne has such a summer retreat waterfall town. The waterfall is located deep in the mountains. In summer, if you have time, you can stay for a night. The town has very beautiful hotels and art galleries.

Of course, you can also do a round trip in one day. We left at 1 p.m. and drove for about 1.5 hours. The mountain roads can be quite winding.

If you go on the weekend and there are lots of people, the parking lot might get crowded. Staff will manage one car in and one car out, directing you to a smaller parking lot to queue for entry. The wait time isn’t too long, on the day we went, we waited for about fifteen minutes.

After heading up the mountain, you’ll need to buy a ticket. Parking for cars with less than 7 seats is $3, no matter how long you park. You can then walk to the waterfall.

The mountain air is fresh and humid, and the walk isn’t tiring, so it’s a very pleasant experience. Plan for about 1–2 hours to enjoy your visit.

On your way to this waterfall, you’ll pass a beautiful little town called Healesville. The town has lots of cafes, grocery stores, and restaurants. On your way there or back, you can stop by to explore. It’s a very charming and lively little town. On our way back, around 5:30 p.m., we found a Thai restaurant (Healesville Thai Kitchen). Surprisingly, it was authentic and affordable! The flavours were amazing. The curry was especially rich and creamy. We also ordered a plate of pineapple fried rice, which paired perfectly with the green curry! The restaurant is by the side of the road, with a parking lot in the back which is very convenient.

Another place you’ll pass is Cherry Hill, in the Yarra Valley wine region. Since we were short on time, we didn’t get a chance to visit. But for those with more time, you could easily plan a one-day trip including this spot.
