Things to do in Nelson Bay Port Stephens

Where to go for school holidays? Of course it’s Nelson Bay. 200 kilometres from Sydney, two and a half hours by car, very suitable for short parent-child trips!

Woke up in the morning, we had breakfast and can depart from Sydney. Generally, hotels check in at 2 pm. So when you arrive at Nelson Bay and finish lunch, you can just put your luggage in the hotel, then drive to Anna Bay lower carpark to ride camels.

Riding camels

Riding camels does not need to be booked in advance, just line up when you arrive. The website says it closes at four o’clock, but actually, as long as you arrive before four, you can get tickets and queue up!

Riding camels is a total of 20 minutes, from the beach to the seaside in a circle, you can hold your child to ride, very safe, super exotic style.

Watching whale/ dolphin

We bought the whale watching tickets on the official website in advance. In summer, you can also choose to watch dolphins! The dolphin boat can go down to the beach to swim halfway, so remember to bring your swimsuits.

The whole trip is three and a half hours, the boat provides free coffee and snacks, bring your own lunch. If you forget to take seasick medicine, it’s okay, the crew will provide free seasick medicine.

Google Imagine Cruise and you can buy tickets. Children $37 Family package $189 (2 adults 2 children)

Toboggan hill park

Here you will find the legendary forest slide! There’s also roller skating, rock climbing, children’s golf, and some entertainment items for kids.

Once you queue for the forest slide, you can ride unlimited times, no need to queue again. Children over 8 can ride alone, under 8 need adults to ride together. You can manually slow down which is very safe!

Take the small train to the top of the mountain, can play in the forest maze.

Tickets can be bought at the entrance, Children $6, Adult $10. Each project needs a ride ticket, which is extra according to number of family members.

Sandboarding & Beach ATV

This needs to be booked in advance on the official website. Just Google Worimi sand Dunes Quad bike tour, ticket price from $40. If weather is bad, you can cancel booking for free, very convenient!

After playing and having lunch by noon, you can drive back to Sydney!

If you have enough time, you can also go to Irukandji Shark & Ray Encounters. A small aquarium, can watch marine animals, interact with sharks, snorkeling, etc. Tickets from $38.
