How to get to the Snowy Mountains?

Getting to the Snowy Mountains is easy! If you’re flying into Australia, the closest major airport would be the Canberra Airport. It is only about a 2 hours drive (or about 208km) from the Snowy Mountains. You can also fly into Sydney Airport, which is approximately a 5 hours drive (or about 478 km) from the region.

The Snowy Mountains Highway is an amazing driving route that offers stunning views of the Snowy Mountains region. As you drive along the Snowy Mountains Highway, you’ll pass through several charming towns and villages that offer easy access to the national park and its many attractions. These towns include Cooma, Jindabyne, and Thredbo, among others.

In Cooma, you can also visit the Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre, which provides you an in-depth look at the Snowy Mountains Hydro Scheme, one of Australia’s greatest engineering achievements.

Visit the Kosciuszko National Park

Kosciuszko National Park is home to Mount Kosciuszko which is the highest peak in Australia. It offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys (Thredbo Village).
