Strawberry Picking in Sydney – Where to go and When

strawberry picking in sydney

It’s not too far from the annual strawberry-picking season in Sydney. Have you figured out what to do for your next vacation? Why not try picking some delicious and juicy strawberries?

When is the Strawberry picking season in Sydney

Australia’s peak strawberry season is from October to November, which is the perfect time to pick strawberries.

Berrylicious Strawberries

To visit “Berrylicious Strawberry”, search for it on Facebook. Tickets are released on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 AM, but sometimes they may be released a little later. You can choose to visit on Saturday, Sunday, or Tuesday. Visitors are divided into time slots to manage the crowd, but arriving early or late is also okay. Strawberry season is from October to June every year.

The entry fee is $20 per person and must be paid online when booking. Eating freshly picked strawberries on site is free, but if you wish to take them away, they are charged at $25 per kilogram. Although visitors are allocated one hour, there is no time limit for picking strawberries. Each visitor will be provided with a paper box and a pair of scissors upon entry.

The strawberry fields have an excellent environment! They are semi-open greenhouses that can block the sun, and there is no mud on the ground. There are four greenhouses in total, and you can go to any of them freely. The strawberries are planted on racks, so there is no need to squat down to pick them, which is very friendly to adults’ heights. For children who are not tall enough, there are also stools available, and paper boxes and scissors will be provided at the entrance.

There are many attractions near the orchard, such as the railway museum, the town where you can see the blue flowers, Bowral town, and so on. In the next post, I will write in detail about our two-day itinerary.

Distance from Sydney: 1.5 hours Nearby, there is a railway museum that you can visit after picking strawberries.

Location: 200B W Parade, Thirlmere NSW

Ricardos Tomatoes & Strawberries

Ricardoes strawberries are hydroponically grown, with over 30,000 plants available for picking. They also have eight varieties of tomatoes, which are large and fresh-tasting. Highly recommended!

Location: 221 Blackmans Point Road, Port Macquarie, NSW

Opening Hours: 8am-5pm all year Admission: free

Huntley Berry Farm

Huntley berry farm, a treasure trove farm we stopped by on our way to Dubbo, is located near Orange and is about a 3.5-hour drive away.

The farm is a non-profit charitable organisation that is famous for its diverse range of berry-picking activities. From November to May, there are over 11 varieties of berries available for picking, including strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries. You can pick strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries for $7/kg, while eggplants, peppers, and pumpkins are available for $2/kg at an affordable price. There are also sunflowers that you can pick, as well as succulent plants and various berry seedlings for sale. The farm is large and has a cafe, with a wide variety of fruits and vegetables available!

Location: Huntley Rd, Huntley NSW 2800

Opening Hours: 9am-4pm (Mon-Fri), 10am-4pm (weekends from October to April)

Admission: free

Bilpin Fruit Bowl

You can make a reservation on their official website or buy tickets at the entrance. The ticket for an adult is $20. When you check-in, you will be asked to buy a plastic box for $10. After you pick the strawberries, they will be weighed and then you pay.

You don’t need to make a reservation, just check their Facebook page to see if they are open, but they are usually open on most weekends.

The strawberries are really the best I have ever tasted. They have a strong strawberry flavor, and most importantly, they are very sweet!

It’s a great place for families with children, and the park has a small café. The entrance to the park is located by the roadside and is easy to find. There are plenty of parking spaces, and when you walk a little further into the park, you’ll see a sign that says “Pick Your Own.”

Location: 2093 Bells Line of Rd, Bilpin NSW 2758

Strawberry Picking Tips

  • If possible, bring a small bucket and water to wash and taste the strawberries
  • Bring a pair of scissors to avoid damaging the strawberries
  • If you are afraid of bugs, bring gloves
  • Wear short sleeves and a sun hat to protect yourself from the strong sunlight in the greenhouse.
