Lake Tyrrell – Journey to the Sky Mirror

Lake Tyrrell

Lake Tyrrell. It’s about a 4-5 hour drive from Melbourne, arriving at the pristine salt lake that resembles a mirror’s surface. The calm lake reflects the entire sky, showcasing stunning sunrises, sunsets, and countless stars, creating a double delight that feels like paradise!

Best time to visit Lake Tyrrell

The best viewing season for the salt lake is from June to October. Around 5:30 pm, free from the scorching noon sun, you’ll witness the most beautiful moment of the pink salt lake. The sparkling lake surface shimmers with vibrant colours, ranging from pink to orange to blue. As night falls, the lake transforms into a galaxy-like spectacle, enveloping you in the vast and twinkling starry sky!

Before heading back, you should return to Lake Tyrrell in the morning. The sunlight will illuminate the salt lake, bringing out its vibrant energy. The colours of the lake’s surface will constantly change, each frame worth capturing and cherishing!

Places to explore nearby

Town of Bendigo

There are no towering buildings or the hustle and bustle of the city. The leisurely town is filled with classical Victorian-style architecture. Strolling through its streets, you’ll feel as if you’ve been transported to a European town. Time slows down, the pace of life slows down, and you can rest and dine in the town, enjoying a lazy afternoon.

Sacred Heart Cathedral

On the return journey of the second day, you should visit the third largest cathedral in Australia – the Sacred Heart Cathedral. It is also a landmark of Bendigo! With its retro Gothic style and magnificent appearance resembling a castle, the sunlight shining through stained glass windows creates a mottled play of light and shadow, exuding a sacred atmosphere.

The best viewing season for this sky-bound experience is quite limited, so cherish the opportunity and don’t miss it for another year.
