Speaking of libraries, they are places where people borrow books or read and study. It doesn’t seem particularly special. However, as the world-renowned cultural capital, Melbourne not only has streets full of humanities and arts, and delicious coffee but also many artistic and literary libraries worth exploring!

State Library of Victoria

This is one of the most beautiful libraries in the southern hemisphere emits an aura of grandeur and a magical world with its white dome and octagonal reading room. The vintage long tables and green desk lamps all tell their stories.

It is also one of the largest libraries in the world, with six floors and a rich collection of books. Bunjil Place Library

The library’s name and striking architectural design inspiration come from “Bunjil,” the creator in the Indigenous language. The iconic roof structure is designed to resemble the wings of a soaring eagle. At first glance, the only two words that come to mind are “spectacular!”

If you didn’t know it was a library, you might think you’ve wandered into an art museum. This award-winning building is divided into three levels and features a digital gaming area, outdoor reading garden, multi-purpose studios, and a gallery service centre.

Library at the Dock

Melbourne Library at The Dock is a hidden gem, especially for those living near Docklands! Rather than just being a library, it feels more like a community centre! In addition to the beautiful scenery from the floor-to-ceiling windows, free use of sewing machines in the craft space, a play area on the first floor for kids, free music lessons, free camera and photography equipment, 3D printing, and other amenities shown in the video, there is also free Wi-Fi, a multimedia classroom that can be rented, and an activity room!

This is the perfect place when you want to be alone and enjoy some quiet time. On the library’s second floor, a window spans one entire wall, offering a panoramic view of the entire Victoria Harbour. As the window faces north, it receives warm sunlight during the winter months. You can grab a cup of coffee from the café on the first floor, pick out a stack of books, and spend an afternoon nestled on the couch by the window on the second floor!
