Ten Thousand Suns – Sydney Exhibition

Ten Thousand Suns - Sydney Exhibition

On the first day of the opening, we went to see the Biennale of Sydney! Lately, we’ve been really into visiting art exhibitions, and we’ve been to quite a few. When we heard that the Biennale of Sydney had started, we immediately went to check it out! We went to the main venue, White Bay Power Station, and we managed to get there on the very first day. This power station has a long history, and it seems like it’s open to the public for the first time.

The theme of this year’s exhibition is ‘Ten Thousand Suns’. When we went there, there weren’t too many people, and we managed to find a parking spot.

What we think

This historic power station (White Bay Power Station), listed on the heritage register for the first time in over a decade, serves as the first venue for the Biennale and is definitely worth a visit!

Constructed from 1912 to 1917, the White Bay Power House was built to provide electricity to the railway network and has a history of over 100 years. The significance of this power station lies in its preservation of machinery predating the 1950s, showcasing the process of power generation and its use in the extensive railway network of Sydney.

The theme of the 2024 Biennale is ’10 thousands suns,’ curated by Artistic Directors Cosmin CostinaÈ™ and Inti Guerrero, and will be exhibited throughout Sydney from March 9 to June 10, 2024. There are so many small details hidden within each artwork.

The combination of artworks and the old power station is quite unique. There’s also a small concert outside. While the content isn’t particularly extensive, spending a little over an hour here is completely okay.

Parking spaces might be scarce on weekends. You can try finding parking on nearby streets, or if you can’t find any, you can park at the nearby Bunning store!

Light snacks and two food trucks are available at the power station exhibition!
