Staying at Dubbo Zoo – the Zoofari Lodge

stay dubbo zoo

After seeing photos of the giraffe house online, we were intrigued and decided to book a stay at Taronga Western Plains Zoo! The African-style accommodations would exceed your expectations in terms of fun and value. The one-night stay includes meals and activities, and both were plentiful.

Things you need to know before booking your stay

The animal view lodges are among the most luxurious accommodations at the zoo! There are a total of 10 tents, but only rooms 6 (Giraffe) and 7 (Meerkat) have a view of the giraffes’ thatched hut. So, when booking, make sure to specify these two room types.

Accommodation options at Dubbo Zoo

Located in Dubbo, New South Wales, Taronga Western Plains Zoo spans over 300 hectares and is the largest open-range zoo in Australia, home to over 1,500 species of animals, with a particular focus on African grassland animals. Here are some highlights of the zoo’s accommodation options. There are three accommodations to choose from.

Zoofari Lodge

Located next to the stunning savannah, this is the home of giraffes, rhinos, zebras, and antelopes. The 75-minute night safari, which takes place on an open safari truck, is a unique experience worth mentioning.

There are two types of lodges available:

1. Animal View Lodges

This is the most popular and hardest to book accommodation, so it is recommended to book three months in advance! 🔥 It can sleep up to four people, including a king-size bed and a double sofa bed. (Reference price: $876)

2. Bushland Lodge

Located in the nearby native bushland. Please note that animals cannot be seen here, but the public viewing area overlooking the savannah is within walking distance (Reference price: $756). It can accommodate up to six people, including a king-size bed, two single beds, and a sofa bed.

Price includes Two-day zoo admission tickets/one-night accommodation/tour/guide/ breakfast and dinner/first-day bike rental/zoo store and café 10% discount The Zoofari Lodge vehicle access is through a dedicated entrance separate from the zoo main gate (using a special PIN code).

Savannah Cabins

It can accommodate up to six people. Bedroom 1: Queen bed with ensuite bathroom. Bedroom 2: Two single beds that can be combined into a king bed, a sofa bed, air conditioning, complete kitchen facilities (including dishwasher, oven, and fridge), and a playground for children.

Reference price: $265/night accommodation only $339/night including zoo admission tickets $409 Ultimate Package, including bike rental and breakfast and dinner in addition to the above.

Billabong Camp

Single Tent can accommodate up to 2 people. Double Tent can accommodate up to 4 adults and children aged 5 and above. One-night tent accommodation Zoo admission tickets Pillows, towels, and bedding are all included. Breakfast and dinner (Australian-style BBQ dinner) Guided zoo tour.

During the stay

During the two-day stay, there will be scheduled activities based on the season.

Guests will receive two days of free zoo admission. The best deal is to visit the park once before check-in at 2 pm, and again after check-out at 10 am.

Hotel guests can also rent bicycles for a day for free, and families with children are recommended to book an electric car tour of the park.

The hotel offers a semi-butler service, with check-in at 2 pm sharp and a one-on-one introduction by staff.

Meals are served at fixed locations, and chefs come out to introduce the dishes of the day. There’s plenty of variety, so you can ask for more of whatever you like.
