When Melbourne is hot, heading to the forest for some coolness might be a good choice.
Located in the Yarra Valley & Dandenong Ranges, about a 1.5-hour drive from Melbourne CBD, in 1930, around 1,500 Californian Redwoods were experimentally planted, leading to the magnificent scenery we see today.
Upon entering, it’s like stepping into an ancient, primordial forest. It’s not an exaggeration to say that it’s a visual feast, with plenty of areas for taking large-scale photos and various walking trails to stroll around the forest.
Experiencing the Cement Creek Redwood Forest
About an hour and a half drive east of Melbourne, is a redwood forest where you hardly need to do much sun protection! The strong UV rays are all blocked by the trees, and a little sunlight penetrates through the gaps, making it truly picturesque!
As soon as you enter here, all the tourists naturally stop making noise and slowly feel the tranquillity that nature provides. The ecological environment is too good, and we highly recommend it to anyone who loves peace and quiet!
It’s also great for taking photos so don’t forget to fully charge your camera before you come! Just follow the navigation and the scenery along the way is very beautiful.
There is an unpaved parking lot at the entrance to the destination, which is very convenient for parking.
There is a picnic area here, bring some ready-to-eat food, but no open flames are allowed! It is explicitly prohibited to bring pets here, possibly for safety considerations.
How long do you need to spend here?
It’s perfect for returning to nature on the weekends and immersing oneself in greenery! The forest area is not large, and it takes about 30 minutes to walk through it (of course not counting time spent taking photos!).
There are many super-large bird nests inside, which are great for taking pictures. Passing through the redwood forest, you can see a beautiful small stream, but safety must be taken into consideration.
Additional tips
- There is no signal in the scenic area, so be sure to contact friends and family in advance.
- The forest is dense, with a lot of rainwater and damp ground, and low temperatures. Wear warm clothes and rain boots.
- The scenic area is not circular, so walking along the stream will not lead back to the parking lot. You must return the same way to avoid getting lost.
- There is a coffee and hot dog food truck in the parking lot.
- There are no toilets in the scenic area, so please arrange personal matters in advance. You can bring your own food and water.
