There’s an actual matcha shop in Melbourne’s CBD, a milling stone, and an authentic Japanese-style setup with mats! They’ve soft launched, so they’re not very well-known yet, but on weekends, they’re already incredibly busy because word of mouth recommendations have spread. That’s why we recommend going on a workday. On Wednesday, we only waited 10 minutes, but when I went back on Saturday, there was a line stretching all the way down to the ground floor.
They sell matcha and hojicha pastries, along with many other types of matcha drinks. We highly recommend their matcha with pink coconut water! It’s so beautiful and delicious (not too sweet and very refreshing). Their matcha cream is excellent! The matcha flavour is just perfect. However, one cup of matcha is $8.
Their Triple Matcha Tart is also delicious with a very rich matcha flavour. The tart crust is crispy and crunchy, not the soft kind. It feels like it would pair perfectly with hot tea.
The atmosphere is nice, and the space is very large. It’s a great place to come alone to read, or pass the time. Sitting by the window seats is very relaxing.
The shop is called Matcha Kobo, and you really should go and try their matcha. Please let us know if you try it and like it.
We went with my friends, we were on a coffee run, and we thought it was such a fun little adventure because it’s slightly hidden. It’s on the second or third floor, and there’s only a small sign telling you that this is Matcha Kobo.
