You can see deer without going to Nara, Japan! It’s about a 30-minute drive from the city centre. Many of the deer at this farm was saved by the owner after being injured. You can get up close and personal with the deer, feed them, and take pictures with them.
Pretend to be in Nara! It’s a fifty-minute drive from the city centre, and there were almost no cars in the latter half of the journey. Driving was very enjoyable!
Be aware that it’s only open on weekends. The admission fee was 10 dollars per group. We were four people, so we paid 10 dollars, and the family next door, who were five people, also paid 10 dollars. Deer feed was 1 dollar per bag.
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary – Currumbin
There are tons of animals and activities It’s perfect for parents to bring their kids to play From kangaroos, koalas, to bird shows. Enough for the kids to have a great time all day!
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is highly recommended. When you enter the park, make sure to line up and take a photo with a koala first, if not you might end up queuing for an hour, especially during the holiday season. The bird show is a must-see, starting at 11:45 am, with another show in the afternoon. It’s super cute and fun, with all kinds of beautiful birds.
Don’t forget the koala photo-taking only lasts until 2 pm each day, so if you go later, the baby koalas will have gone home!
Mountview Alpaca Farm – Canungra
A well-known alpaca farm. There are many BBQ pits on the farm that can be used on the spot. It is close to the Lamington Rainforest, and the surrounding scenery is very beautiful. The farm owner also hosts many interactive games with alpacas.
The alpaca park has been very popular and it’s perfect for families to visit! You can get up close and feed the animals, and the kids are super excited! The animals here include alpacas, rabbits, sheep, horses, ostriches, deer, and more, with the owner continuously adding more animals in the future. They might soon offer activities like horseback riding and ostrich riding, which is very exciting!
The staff here are very enthusiastic, explaining the origins of the small animals and teaching children how to hold them. They also provide feed for the animals, and my children fed them four bowls, which made them very happy!

A very famous zoo in Brisbane. Here you can feed kangaroos, hold koalas, see wombats, and watch sheepdog performances. The pictures are amazing! If you often go, you can purchase an annual pass on the official website, which is super cost-effective.
Actually, the zoo is quite small, and 3-4 hours is enough time. The main attraction is holding a koala and feeding the kangaroos. You should feed the kangaroos early, or they will be too full.
