A Cabin Getaway to See the Milky Way in Sydney

A Cabin Getaway to See the Milky Way in Sydney

This cabin, called Mowgli, is located in Bulliac, over 280 kilometres from Sydney, with a drive of less than 4 hours from the city. There’s a small town about 10 kilometres away from the cabin, which has a Woolworths that can serve as a supply stop.

What we think about Into the Wild Escape Cabin Mowgli

The cabin is very clean overall and can accommodate four people. There’s a queen bed on the ground floor, while the other bed is on a loft, accessible by ladder.

We visited in autumn, but there were still quite a few insects, so if you’re concerned, we’d recommend bringing an electric mosquito swatter just in case.

The bathroom doesn’t have a flushing system. After using the toilet, you cover it with wood shavings, though there isn’t much of an odour.

The cabin is powered by solar energy, so it’s best to avoid using high-power appliances. The guide mentioned that hot water is limited, but there was enough for each person to take a shower. If you’re worried about running out of hot water, you can stagger shower times.

There’s a stove and a small fridge available. The cabin was warm when we visited, though we’re not sure how it holds up in winter. There’s air conditioning that can run for three hours, but we didn’t need to use it!

Things to do near the cabin

One of the highlights of this cabin is the chance to see misty, fog-covered views. We were lucky enough to catch this on the second morning, though it wasn’t there on the third.
Both sunrise and sunset are stunning, with the sky painted in vibrant colours.

During Milky Way season, this would be an ideal spot for stargazing.

What to eat

We brought enough BBQ supplies for two meals, ingredients for two hotpot dinners, and plenty of wine, drinks, and water. BBQs and hotpots are the perfect meals for the cabin (we brought our own electric hotpot and portable stove).

You can buy firewood from the hosts to have a campfire, and we brought our own fire starters (you can get these at Woolworths).

Entertainment depends on your preference, board games, mahjong, and cards are all good options!

A pleasant surprise was that the cabin had phone signal, as we had prepared for a three-day digital detox.

Overall, it was a fantastic trip, and we’re planning to try another cabin next time!
