Great Barrier Reef – a must visit place in Cairns
Great Barrier Reef is one of the must visit place when you are visiting Cairns. The Great Barrier Reef is the largest living thing on earth and you can spot them quite easily from the outer space. In here, you can swim amongst the stunning coral formations, giant clams, rare species of whales, and six of the world’s seven marine turtle species.
The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest coral reef system composed of over 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands stretching for over 2,300 kilometres over an area of approximately 344,400 square kilometres. The reef is located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland, Australia.
There are many Great Barrier Reef Tours you can join in Cairns. Most tours offer snorkelling, underwater observatory, diving and glass bottom boat tour. You can also book helicopter flight or if you want something more special you can also try the reef suites – Australia’s first underwater accommodation.
Skyrail Rainforest Cableway and Train Tour
This is one of the best places you should visit in Cairns. We would recommend taking the Kuranda Scenic Railway to get to the Kuranda then taking Skyrail back to Cairns. The experience is truely amazing. You can get the most of it by treating yourself the Kuranda Scenic Rail Gold Class so that you can enjoy the snacks, meals and unlimited drink while you are enjoying the scenic view on the train. For Skyrain, you can also book yourself the diamond view which has a glass floor which you can take a closer look at the rain forest from the Skyrail. You can find out more information on the Skyrain website. Once you arrive Kuranda, there are many local shops and small cafes. If you have enough time, you can also book yourself a rainforest boat tour which you can join near the train station (near the river).
Paronella Park
Although it takes more than an hour drive from Cairns, Paronella is still a wonderful place to visit. On 5ha beside Mena Creek Falls José Paronella built his castle, picnic area by the falls, tennis courts, bridges, a tunnel, and wrapped it up in an amazing range of 7,500 tropical plants and trees (now a lush rainforest). Make sure you bring your camera, and a power bank for your phone as you will be taking lots of great photos here in the park. You can also feed the large fish and turtles. You can find out more on the official website.
Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures
If you are looking for something more special, you should visit the Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures. You can easily spend hours in the park. They have plenty of shows you can experience, such as the crocodile farm tour where you will learn about the crocodile farming industry, they also have cassowary feeding, snake show as well as the famous crocodile attack show. When you enter the park, the staff will give you a time for your boat cruise, this is the best part of the day so make sure you don’t miss it. You can also try their popular crocodile meat burger in the park. For shows time table you can visit their website.
