What do Australian primary school students bring for camping? In private schools, camping usually begins in the third grade, while in public schools, it’s mostly in the fifth grade. Our kid has has two camps this year, each typically lasting three days. It’s a great opportunity for exercise, being away from parents, living independently, packing our own luggage, setting up sleeping bags, taking turns to shower, and organising our changed clothes.
Tomorrow, our little one will be participating in a three-day, two-night camping trip organised by the school. Today, they came home excitedly, urging us to pack their bags quickly. Here’s what we’ve prepared!
Primary school camp packing list
- One backpack
- Water bottle
- Sun hat
- Four sets of spare clothes (t-shirts, shorts, long pants)
- Four pairs of underwear, four pairs of socks
- One set of pajamas, one sunscreen shirt
- Waterproof bag (containing swimsuit, swim trunks, goggles, quick-dry towel)
- Spare sports shoes (the school informed us about muddy activities, so we’re not bringing expensive shoes as they’ll be discarded after use)
- Slippers
- Beach towel
- Sleeping bag, pillow (although it’s camping, there are dormitories with one bed per person)
- Toiletries (shampoo, body wash, face wash, toothpaste, toothbrush, dental floss)
- Protective gear (band-aids, disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizer, mosquito repellent roll-on, sunscreen roll-on)
Regarding mosquito repellent and sunscreen, the school reminded us to only bring products with roller balls.
All items must be marked with the child’s name and class!
This camping trip is self-funded, costing $345 per person, including meals, accommodation, and activities. We think it’s definitely worth it. Our kid is most excited about the surfing part of the trip. We believe it will be an unforgettable journey!
