Clay: Collected Ceramics – Ceramic Clay Exhibition at MoB

Clay: Collected Ceramics

From ancient vessels to small sculptures that reveal the ancient human life, ceramics have been an indispensable part of world culture for thousands of years!

To celebrate contemporary ceramics and its imaginative creators in Brisbane, the “Clay: Collected Ceramics” exhibition combines works from the collection of the Museum of Brisbane and the personal collection of Kelly Johnson!

Clay: Collected Ceramics Exhibition

Featuring works spanning 60 years of creativity, including fresh and never-before-seen pieces, this exhibition sparks a dialogue about the relationship between potters and their visions. From functional goods from the 1970s to conceptual creations of today’s idol breakers, this exhibition tells a meaningful story of the process from ceramic production to collection.

Highlights of the exhibition include works by ten renowned makers selected from the MoB series, including Carl McConnell, Gwyn Hanssen Pigott, Milton Moon, Lyndal Moor, and Kevin Grealy.

Throughout, there is an ongoing performative installation by artist Jody Rallah, constantly evolving. So many collections tell the story of the life of writer, poet, traveler, and founder of the Brisbane Treasure Trove Paper Boat Publishing, Kelly Johnson. A specially made film for this exhibition will take you into the more intimate spaces of ceramics.

Whether you’re a ceramics clay enthusiast or simply looking to explore, I highly recommend this exhibition.
