Spider-Man pop-up at Circular Quay

Spider-Man pop-up at Circular Quay

Thanks to the school holidays, I caught the Spider-Man pop-up, hehe.

It was free, and it was already busy by 11.

The event was free and you could walk straight in. By the time we got there at 11am there were already lots of people. It was a very sunny day, so bring an umbrella or a hat.

Two small activities, a bit of merch and a free iced drink

There were two small activities you could take part in, and once you’d done them you could collect a small piece of merch. There was also a free iced drink to pick up, and it tasted pretty good.

The Spider-Man cosplayer was the best part

The most important thing was the Spider-Man cosplayer. He was incredibly faithful to the character, as if he’d really studied him. He stayed silent the whole time, and his movements were small and spider-like. When I handed him a plush toy for a photo, he was so adorable. First he clutched his head as if he couldn’t believe it, then he carefully cradled the plush in both hands and posed with me for the photo. I was so happy!

I didn’t know how long it would run

I didn’t know how long the event would last when I was there, and I told readers nearby to go and take a look. It’s at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, on the wharf across from the Opera House.

What else is worth knowing

The pop-up turned out to be a one-day event. It was a free, one-day-only activation at Circular Quay run by Organic for Sony Pictures Television to celebrate the home entertainment release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, so there’s nothing to go to now. More than 1,500 fans came through, many lining up two hours before opening, which fits how busy it already was when we arrived at 11.

Over 800 fans took part in the Spidey-senses game and web-slinging competition, which would be the two small activities. The free drink was an ice cream spider, an Australian treat of soft drink with ice cream, and more than 1,500 were served, while over 200 fans turned up dressed as Spider-Man. The film itself is now available to buy or rent at home.

If you missed it

This one’s over, but there’s more like it on the site. If you like a character meet and greet, our SEA LIFE Melbourne Animal Crossing review covers a stamp rally and a meet and greet with Isabelle, and our Metro Tunnel Passport Challenge is another stamp-collecting outing for kids.

There are more in our events section, and the NSW school holiday dates show when the summer break starts if you want to plan ahead.
