Miss Marple's Tearoom - Traditional English Afternoon Tea at Mt Dandenong

Located on Mount Dandenong, Miss Marple’s Tea Room is our go-to place for traditional English afternoon tea. This establishment, in operation for over forty years, is well-known among the local elderly. The distance from the city to Mount Dandenong is just a quick drive away. Nothing beats a warm, fluffy Scone paired with delicious clotted cream and strawberry jam. It’s pure satisfaction!

During the weekend, this place is bustling with people, a hotspot for enthusiastic tourists. On weekdays, it transforms into a serene spot to enjoy a traditional English afternoon tea. No need to worry about long queues; the staff is super friendly, and there’s always the delightful Scone!

Following the usual routine, one Plain scone and one Fruit scone. Pair them with a pot of hot “Yorkshire Gold” House tea, and you have the perfect combination. The slightly bitter taste complements the sweetness of the Scone.

The clotted cream and strawberry jam on the Scone have a refreshing taste, not too heavy, and won’t make you feel guilty.

The Chicken Pie with a layer of thick mashed potatoes on top is crispy on the outside, and the filling melts in your mouth. It’s a blissful moment at this English tea house.

Things to try

Miss Marple’s Scones – Their signature dish! Almost a must-order for every table. It comes with clotted cream and raspberry jam. The cream itself isn’t sweetened, making it a perfect companion to the scone without being overly sweet.

Bread and Butter Pudding – Traditional English pudding! Not the kind we usually think of; the English version is a bread pudding with ice cream and cream. It’s delicious and highly recommended!

Drinks

Teapot of Taylors – This one is quite special. They use the finest tea leaves selected by the English Tea Council to brew it. However, it tastes like English breakfast tea. It comes with milk and sugar. The coffees are decent but nothing extraordinary.

The experience

A place you’ll likely pass by when visiting the Dandenong Mountains. If you’re not in a hurry and want to take a break, give it a try. The interior is very vintage!

Before leaving, you can even grab some tea leaves. Our favourite is their French Earl Grey. A stash of Eureka is also good, offering a subtle milky aroma. If you like green tea, give their Buddha Tears a try. It performs remarkably well in this price range, with a clear taste and a lingering aftertaste.
