Fire Door – Charcoal Steak Restaurants in Sydney

fire door restaurant australia

Surprisingly, Firedoor has secured third in the 2022 World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants list. It’s quite an achievement for Australian dining!

Firedoor is a restaurant that specialises in cooking with fire and is known for its all-charcoal menu. They follow a fine dining approach to BBQ, and ever since head chef Lennox was featured on Netflix’s ‘Chef’s Table,’ reservations need to be made six months in advance.

The restaurant features an open kitchen that exclusively uses wood charcoal grills and ovens to prepare all their dishes. They eliminate complex cooking techniques and rely on the flavour-enhancing power of charcoal.

Their 180+ day dry-aged steak is a must-try signature dish. You can’t order the steak a la carte; it comes as part of a set menu. The beef is sourced from Victor Churchill, and the charcoal-grilled steak is incredibly tender, with a melt-in-your-mouth texture and a rich, smoky flavour from the wood charcoal. It’s a definite must-try at Firedoor.

How much is steak at Firedoor?

The main course in the set menu, the pork, is incredibly juicy with a crispy, crackling skin. They serve freshly baked sourdough bread from Pioik, baked in a charcoal oven. The set menu costs $155 per person and changes according to seasonal ingredients.

Reservations

The restaurant opens bookings for the following three months on the first Wednesday of every month at 12:00 PM on their website. Alternatively, you can call 02 8204 0800 to make a reservation. If you’re lucky, there may be last-minute cancellations!
