In Moonee Ponds, a suburb of Melbourne, their classic big breakfast is exactly what people imagine an Aussie big breakfast to be. On New Year’s Day, when basically the whole world is on holiday, it’s rare to find a hidden gem café still open – Brother Hen.

What must be mentioned about this café is their — chickens! It’s a café with both indoor space and a backyard. The concept isn’t super unique, similar to the menu, but they have a big chicken coop, and you’ll occasionally hear cool crowing sounds — no matter what time you come for brunch, it feels like you’re having breakfast.

Generous portions, great presentation, and reasonable prices.
Minus one point because the menu is quite similar to most brunch spots on the market, lacking a bit of novelty.
But worth mentioning, they serve Melbourne’s specialty coffee. Extra! energising!

From entry to exit, the service is flawless — warm, friendly, full of smiles. They’re happy to answer any questions.

Definitely worth visiting!
Can’t guarantee the eggs on your plate are laid by the hens next to you, but you can be sure everything is fresh.
Big portions, great taste, and after eating, you can walk over to Queen’s Park nearby to digest all those calories.
