This season is perfect for strawberry picking, and maybe it’s just psychological, but strawberries you pick yourself taste even sweeter! It’s also a lot of fun and perfectly suited for little ones. November is the perfect season in Melbourne for picking cherries and strawberries!
Early in the morning, we drove over an hour from Melbourne to Mornington – Rocky Creek Farm for strawberry picking. Sunny Ridge has been renamed and is now called Rocky Creek Strawberry Farm. Tickets are $12 per person, and kids under 4 get in free. Each person receives an empty container to fill with 500g of strawberries, and you’re welcome to snack a little while you pick!
They have a café, a picking field, and delicious strawberry treats! If you are visiting around November or December, the strawberries are incredibly fresh. Their strawberries are huge and super sweet!
They also serve delicious scones too with strawberry jam, which are amazing!
At the entrance, you can purchase tickets: a family pass (2 adults + 2 kids) is $30, while single adult tickets are $12. You receive a clear container to fill with strawberries that you can take home for free. If it’s muddy, they even provide shoe covers which is very thoughtful!
Tips
- Arriving early on Saturdays means fewer people, and it’s perfect for photos.
- The website suggests wearing rain boots, but unless there was a heavy rain the day before, they’re usually unnecessary.
- Outside the strawberry field, there are strawberries, jams, and more. The strawberries sold outside are slightly larger but just as sweet. We bought two jars of strawberry jam, they are perfect on toast in the morning.
