Love Letters Photobooth Bondi – Vintage Photo Strips Done Right

Love Letters Photobooth Bondi - Vintage Photo Strips Done Right

Missed their Melbourne pop-up, so when it turned up in Sydney, obviously had to take the family of three in for a proper old-school photo.

$9 a session, vintage style, card or Apple Pay. You get 3 photos taken, and walk away with 2 printed photo strips straight away.

Location’s right on Gould Street in Bondi, so you can wander out of a shop, grab a coffee, duck in and get a strip done, no need to make a special trip just for the photos.

The Space Itself

Decor in here is genuinely well done, feels like you’ve been teleported straight to Korea. There’s shade overhead so you don’t get that harsh unflattering top light, and natural light still hits you from the front, so your skin looks great in the shots. Every corner of the shop is photogenic too, you could stand pretty much anywhere and it’d look good.

Love Letters is a four minute walk from Common Supply, and cross the road from there and you’re at Bondi Beach.

Lessons Learned the Hard Way (After A Few Failed Attempts)

  • About 10 seconds after you tap your card, it starts shooting automatically
  • It fires off a shot every few seconds, 3 photos total
  • You can’t pick which photo you want, so it’s very easy to end up with your eyes closed in one
  • For two people, don’t crouch or stand, sit on the stool, the spacing works out right. Standing or crouching puts your face too close to the lens
  • For solo shots, also recommend sitting on the stool
  • Plan your pose in advance, there’s genuinely not much reaction time once it starts

The Photos Themselves

The camera’s a Canon, so being digital, the prints come out fast, no long wait. Not totally sure why, but the shots don’t come out super sharp. This location’s tone is pure black and white. The Manhattan location leans more sepia, slightly yellowed.

Seating here is more spacious than the Manhattan one, more room to move around and pose properly. Still only one stool though.

When to Go

Open 10am to 8pm. We got there just after 12pm and it wasn’t busy at all. By around 1pm, people started trickling in and you’ll need to queue.

Got our vintage photo strips done in Bondi, properly good atmosphere.
