Back in 2024 when I travelled to Japan I tried this wide udon for the first time, it felt really special, didn’t expect I could eat it in Melbourne too.
Today after class I went with a friend to a small Japanese shop that only sells udon, didn’t expect there were quite a lot of people.

Look at the menu, who has 18 udon flavours my god! How is someone with decision paralysis supposed to survive this!
But luckily everything I ordered was really good! don’t mind I’m actually quite good at ordering!
M9 Volcano Sanuki Udon (a bit Spicy)
Their new udon, although it says spicy it’s actually not that spicy, even someone like me who can’t eat spicy still thinks it’s OK, flavour is quite strong, a bit like spicy beef noodles, quite suits Chinese taste, also the wagyu is really good, beef comes in big chunks, I finished the noodles and still had meat left, shows the portion is really generous!

If you’re not sure what to order just get this! super special udon, it’s wide udon, and they also give a lot of small side toppings, people who like DIY will definitely get me.
Besides the original clear soup, it also includes two different style small bowls of toppings, a bit like tofu dips! dipping the wide udon into the sauce tastes really nice, later everything gets poured into the big bowl and mixed together!
We also ordered two sides
– Wagyu Stew
– Sukiyaki Pork
They both are really good! basically adding toppings to the udon! beef is salty flavour pork is sweet-salty flavour, but both tastes are very different, neither can replace the other!
Drink we ordered the Yuzu Juice!
Refreshing yuzu juice really helps cut the greasiness! because eating too much meat can make you feel a bit uncomfortable, after drinking this it instantly felt much fresher!

Compared to tonkotsu ramen I prefer this kind of clear soup base more, who told me I love soup noodles, tonkotsu broth is too oily and too salty, this udon is just right but wide udon seems like it’s usually eaten by dipping sauce style this set perfectly hit what I wanted which is just soup noodles and the wide udon!
