The Blue Mountains, located in New South Wales, Australia, were once praised by Queen Elizabeth II of England as “the most beautiful place in the world”! The Blue Mountains is a long mountain range with a coverage area of nearly one million hectares.
Due to the eucalyptus leaves constantly emitting a strong fragrance, this volatile steam of fragrance envelops the Blue Mountains in a blue mist when refracted by sunlight, creating a faint blue smoke on the slopes and blue mist in the sky. A large part of the Blue Mountains has been designated as a World Heritage Area, with seven national parks and one nature reserve.
Things to do in Blue Mountains
Scenic Skyway
The entrance to the cable car and train is located at this place, and there is a relatively large parking lot outside. The cable car is open from 10 am to 4 pm on weekdays and from 9 am to 5 pm on weekends. If you go on a Monday, there won’t be many people!
There are three lines in total: yellow and blue cable cars, and a red train.
The recommended route is to take the yellow cable car first, where you can see waterfalls and the Three Sisters Peak, and the middle section of the corridor has a transparent floor, allowing you to see the trees below, which is quite interesting.
When you get off the cable car and walk towards the attraction, there is a fork in the road. Going left leads to the Cliff View, which is very spectacular while going right leads to the waterfall, which is very suitable for taking photos. These two attractions are worth seeing.
If you don’t take the cable car, it seems that navigating to Skyway East Station – Scenic World by car can also get you to these two points.
After seeing these sights, you can walk back or take the cable car back. Next is the red train on the route, which is quite fun. You can do it several times if you like, and it is a little thrilling but there will be no feeling of fear at all (even for someone like kids who might be too scared to ride a roller coaster!). This is a concept similar to the mining train back in the day, and as you travel along, you will pass through a narrow passage, which is a very different experience, both getting on and off are interesting. There is also an introduction to the previous mining cart and mining model next to it, which is quite novel.
Compared to the other two, the blue cable car might seem a bit ordinary. After you get off the blue cable car and walk back to the location of the red train, walking in the woods is quite comfortable, and there isn’t much climbing up and down, so it won’t be too tiring. There is also a large pavilion to rest in, which is very comfortable!
Echo Point Lookout
This place is also a good place to see the Three Sisters Peak up close. Although some people might skip this as they have already seen it when they take the cable car. But it’s also a place worth checking out for taking photos! Other than taking pictures from different angles with the Three Sisters Peaks and the Grand Canyon. There are several cafes along the road, but they are usually crowded!
Lincoln’s Rock
This place is so great for taking photos! This place is truly beautiful! Some people might take pictures on the C-shaped rock but we wouldn’t recommend it as it can be very dangerous. Continue walking to the left, and there is also a beautiful cave!
South Lawson Waterfall
This is a waterfall, and it is said to be the source of the waterfall. If you are hiking in the Blue Mountains, you will probably come across many small waterfalls.

At the end of April toward early May, it’s the red leaf season in Sydney, and the small towns near the Blue Mountains are all covered in red leaves. Sydney’s train goes directly to the Blue Mountains and the adjacent Leura town.
