Moala Yogurt Melbourne – Flavours, Prices & What to Know

Moala Yogurt Melbourne - Flavours, Prices & What to Know

I got an early look at this one before most people. Moala Yogurt is at Lot 2/85 A’Beckett Street, Melbourne, in the CBD’s northern pocket near Elizabeth Street and not far from RMIT. It’s an easy walk from Melbourne Central if you’re already in that part of the city.

Inside, the palette is all cream, pale apricot and soft pink, with lighting warm enough that it doesn’t feel like the slightly clinical, too-bright look a lot of self-serve yoghurt chains go for. Someone’s clearly put thought into the styling — there’s a bit of a Van Gogh-meets-dopamine-colour thing happening on the walls — and it photographs well without trying too hard. The small hedgehog worked into the logo is a nice, slightly odd touch that stuck with me more than most cafe branding does.

How the Self-Serve Bar Works

You grab a bowl, pull your own froyo from the machines, then load up at the topping bar before it’s weighed at the register — the standard format for this kind of shop. The staff were genuinely warm about it, too. When I was piping my swirl into the bowl, one of them stopped to tell me it looked good, which is a small thing but it’s the kind of detail that makes a first visit feel less transactional.

If you’ve been to Yochi or one of the other Melbourne self-serve yoghurt spots, the format will feel familiar, but the flavour lineup here is doing its own thing rather than copying the usual rotation.

What I Actually Tried

The flavour list runs through original, green mango, lychee, strawberry, taro and coconut. Green mango is the one to get. It tastes like biting into a mango that’s still underripe and just been sliced — sharp, a little tart, nowhere near as sweet as you’d expect from a dessert bar — and it’s the flavour that cuts through everything else on the topping bar rather than adding to the sugar pile. Taro was a close second, and the fresh strawberries looked freshly cut rather than sitting out from the morning.

My go-to combination ended up being green mango and original, topped with pistachio sauce and fresh strawberry — original balances out the tartness of the mango without drowning the toppings, which is harder to get right than it sounds.

The topping bar itself has more than 30 options, including fresh fruit, crunchy popping bits and biscuit crumbs, plus six sauces. The pistachio sauce was the standout of the lot. There’s also a Dubai chocolate crumb and a palmier (butterfly pastry) among the toppings, which places Moala inside the pistachio-and-kadayif chocolate trend that’s been turning up on dessert menus everywhere the past couple of years. The style started with a single Dubai chocolatier back in 2021 and didn’t really take off worldwide until a couple of years later, according to reporting on the Dubai chocolate craze — so by the time it’s showing up as a topping crumb in a Melbourne yoghurt bar, it’s more or less caught up with everywhere else.

The Yoghurt Smoothies (Separate From the Froyo)

Alongside the froyo, Moala has four signature yoghurt drinks: a blue spirulina berry yoghurt, a green superfood yoghurt, a hawthorn ruby yoghurt, and a pistachio avocado yoghurt.

I tried two. The blue spirulina berry one is sweet-tart and genuinely photogenic — that blue isn’t for show, it comes through in the taste too. The hawthorn ruby one had a much stronger, more distinct flavour; if you already like hawthorn (山楂) you’ll know the taste immediately, and it was sweet and sharp enough that I finished the whole cup faster than I meant to. Both servings were generous — closer to a full drink than a sample-sized extra.

The September “Weigh & Win” Promotion

When I visited, Moala was running a challenge called Weigh & Win, active daily from 1pm to 6pm: land your bowl exactly on 300g, 400g, 500g or 600g at the register and you get that bowl half price, and if you’re within 10g of one of those weights, you get a discount voucher for your next visit instead.

Promotions like this tend to be time-limited and can change without much notice, so if this is the reason you’re going, it’s worth checking Moala’s own Instagram or asking in-store before you rock up expecting it.

What to Know Before You Go

  • Address: Lot 2/85 A’Beckett Street, Melbourne VIC 3000.
  • There’s a small DIY activity where you can decorate your own yoghurt cup with stickers and drawing — a nice one if you’ve got kids with you and a few minutes to spare while you eat.
  • Because I visited during a pre-opening tasting, day-to-day opening hours weren’t fully locked in yet. Check Moala’s Google Business listing or Instagram for current hours before you make a special trip.
  • It’s a weigh-and-pay format, so it’s easy to spend more than you planned on if you get carried away at the topping bar — worth keeping half an eye on your scoop.

Is It Worth a Visit?

For a single visit, yes — the green mango flavour alone is worth going back for, and the pistachio sauce is doing more work than most toppings bars manage with six sauce options. It’s not trying to be Yochi with a different name; the flavours and the smoothie menu give it its own reason to exist. If you’re already in the CBD and want somewhere to sit for a bit rather than grab and go, this fits that gap nicely.

If you’re planning a bigger day out in Melbourne’s CBD with the kids, it’s worth checking our Victorian school holidays 2026 dates so you know which weeks the city gets busier, or browsing our Dessert Cafes roundup for a few more stops to build a laneway crawl around.
