How to capture family moments

Family moments are something wonderful. Wherever there’s family, there’s always something lively happening.

Between beautiful moments and occasional catastrophes, it can be hard to have a balanced daily life. No Mum nor Dad wants to miss out on the good, as well as on the bad days they have with their children. Even though it sometimes feels like they could skip a day or two and disappear for a three-day spa resort trip.

But all those unforgettable day-to-day moments at home, on your holidays or on the first day of school, are super important for every parent. You want to remember every single second of it. Because memories matter the most. That’s why pictures are a big must to have in your household – printed and digitalized!

Now the question is: How DO I capture the best family moments? Between having a full-time job, keeping the house clean, spending time with friends and family and taking some me-time, it sometimes can be hard to find the perfect timing to be aware of nice family moments and to capture them.

Here are some tips that will help you to lean back, enjoy the time with your loved ones and still be able to save these for future picture flash-back evenings:

  1. Moments over perfection

When it comes to pictures, many people associate perfection within the setup. Your house has to be clean, the kids need to be nicely dressed and everybody has to be smiling at the camera.

You get frustrated when the focus of your camera is not right or someone’s eyes are closed in the picture?

But there is so much more behind it!

You need to accept the imperfections of a single photo and rather pay attention to the moment you captured. Even though your little boy has tomato sauce all over his face – you saved a happening that is beautiful and funny to look back on. And the best thing: Nowadays there are endless possibilities of the amount of data you can save on your laptop. So while you might print one or two pictures, the rest can stay on your hard drive for future flashbacks.

So get yourself a nice camera and start capturing the daily mess.

  1. Bring back those memories!

For parents who have already seen their kids moving out, the best idea is to bring back memories they had together when they were younger. 35mm slides were one of the best ways to capture family moments back in the 60s and 70s. But as negative photographic images are made on film or prepared glass, it can be hard to maintain them well. These memories can get lost or destroyed because of the fast aging process of film material. Therefore it might be a good idea to protect them through digitalization and printed replicas. Look up some 35mm slide scanning services and negative scanning services around you to safely bring home those moments.

  1. Save your pictures

The moment of sitting in front of a pile of old photos will never lose its value. But in our digital world, it can be so easy to just save everything on a USB stick or on a laptop itself. It is simple, quick and without much effort, right? But does scrolling through pictures on your screen give you the same nostalgic feeling you get while thumbing through a realistic photo album? Most certainly not.

Pictures are like books. They will never go out of fashion because of the memories they contain and can bring back.

But as well as negatives, printed pictures can get lost easily. That’s why you have to make sure that you double save your family memories and get them digitalized.
