Capalaba Produce Review - The Petting Zoo Hidden in a Brisbane Produce Store

It’s a mini petting zoo hidden in the city, for kids who like small animals when you don’t want to make a special trip out to a farm.

First time at Capalaba Produce. It reminded me of the flower and bird markets back in China, but more Australian. It’s a farm supplies store that’s been running for decades, and on weekends a lot of Brisbane families bring their kids.

There’s a big rooster out the front, you can’t miss it.

Inside the store

The country feel starts as soon as you walk in. They sell garden plants and flowers, pet supplies, chicken and duck feed and farm supplies, plus feed, toys and the basics for all sorts of animals. There are guinea pigs and parrots to look at inside, and a few small animals to see out the front by the door. We found plenty of small things to look at, kids and adults both. It’s a farm produce market selling pet food, supplies, greenery and gardening gear, and it has a garden and a cafe where you can sit down with a snack. You don’t need a pet to enjoy walking around it, and you don’t have to go to an expensive pet shop, this place has what you need.

Ted’s Corner

The animal area is at the back, and it’s called Ted’s Corner. The animals change with the season, so you may see different ones each time. We saw lambs, piglets, alpacas, mini horses, ducks, chickens, and a goat and a horse as well. It’s pretty natural, but every pen has shade, water and a clean space to move around in, and the animals look well looked after.

You put a gold coin in the donation box and get a bag of feed to give to the animals. The money goes to the Queensland Koala Society.

One chicken had a scary look and I don’t know what breed it was. It frightened our little one. Other kids weren’t scared of it at all, and some went over and patted it.

The set-up has a farm feel, and it suits young toddlers. They say you can bring your pets too.

A day out with Cleveland

It fits into a day with Cleveland by the water. Feed the animals in the morning, walk by the sea in the afternoon. An easy thing to do in the holidays. It’s also close to the Redlands IndigiScapes Environment Centre.

Where it is

3247 Old Cleveland Road, Chandler QLD 4157. Parking is easy.

If you want more animal days out, we’ve written up Trevena Glen Farm, and the dates for the Queensland break are on our QLD school holidays 2026 page.
