DOH Daily Oven Heaven Melbourne Review

DOH Daily Oven Heaven Melbourne Review

I kept seeing DOH posts on social media, and everyone said the donuts were really good. So after a proper early morning of studying, I decided to go and buy one as a reward. Study for a while, then get a donut. That was the deal.

DOH, which stands for Daily Oven Heaven, is at 9 Dhanga Djeembana Walk, Melbourne, right beside Queen Victoria Market. It sells Korean-style cream donuts. Broadsheet says it opened in February with 12 donuts made from a milk-enriched dough, and the fillings are things like Biscoff, chocolate, sweet potato, red bean and sweet corn.

Broadsheet lists it as open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm, so check before you go.

I started with black sesame. It was soft when I squeezed it, and so full of filling that cream spilled out when I bit in. It was really good. I had it with an iced latte and the combination was perfect.

We Ordered Everything

I can’t decide when there’s a lot to choose from, so we got every flavour: Earl Grey, matcha, blueberry, sweet corn, durian, cookie and cream, chocolate and white chocolate.

They look good, and photos come out well. The outside is a little crisp and the inside is soft and fluffy. It’s lighter than I expected and not oily. Every flavour was good, and there are tea, fruit, nut and chocolate ones. They’re not too sweet, and you can taste a light baked smell in each bite.

A few others stood out. The butter red bean was slightly runny in the middle with bits of bean. The sweet corn, the matcha and the blueberry were all different and all good. The filling is generous, but it didn’t get sickly after a couple of bites. Lots of donut shops put looks ahead of taste, but this one seems to care about the taste.

The Drinks

We got three specials:

Mojito long black – fresh and light. You could drink one every day.

Peanut cream latte – strong peanut smell, smooth foam. It’s lighter than the thick one at the shop next door.

Sesame latte – an unusual sesame flavour, rich and smooth.

The black sesame latte is great too. The no-sugar version is still good, because the sesame cream is sweet on its own, and it’s thick. Next time I want to try the corn latte. I also liked the matcha tiramisu. It’s strong, not watery, and you can taste the tea.

Great For Gifts

The donuts look neat, and when you walk in you can smell them fresh from the oven. They’re good to take away or share. It’s my first choice for a gift for a friend or a client.

Around The Market

There’s plenty to eat around Queen Vic Market, and each place has its own style. I like the night market there, and I think it’s good value.
