Taking advantage of the school holidays, I brought my kid to check out an amazing playground – John Wearn Reserve Playground. This newly built John Wearn Reserve Playground in Carlingford is in a great location with convenient parking. It’s more suitable for kids aged 3 and above.
John Wearn Reserve Playground reviews
The John Wearn Reserve Playground has a wildlife safari theme. There are elephants, zebras, lions, lion cubs, hippos, and monkeys—even a giraffe. As you walk past, the lion roars and the monkeys chatter.
There are nature-themed play facilities: bamboo tunnels, various play equipment, swings, spider climbing ropes, slides, tents, stepping logs, and musical elements.
Highlights
- Sound-making animal sculptures: lions, elephants, zebras, and hippos. The best part is that they actually make sounds when you walk past, creating a very immersive experience that young kids will find exciting.
- Forest-style playground: a wooden castle with a large slide, bamboo and rope climbing areas, and even the ground in the swing area is designed with giraffe patterns—it’s very atmospheric.
- Perfect for both kids and dogs: there are separate large and small dog areas, so you can bring your furry friends to run around too. There’s street parking, clean restrooms, and BBQ areas.
The entire playground is built along a slope and divided into different zones: kids’ playground, basketball and soccer courts, and a skateboarding area. They complement each other without interference, and the facilities are excellent.
In the middle is a skateboarding area, along with a basketball court.
Further down, there are outdoor fitness facilities for adults, which kids can also try out.
Below the playground is a skate park suitable for older kids or those who enjoy skateboarding. There are also fitness facilities where you can work out.

There are also several designated dog areas. there are fenced areas for dogs to run freely. and you can walk your dog too, making it a great spot for dog lovers. The only downside is that there are very few baby facilities.
You can walk around the whole park while your child plays—it’s really nice. Highly recommended. Hidden in Carlingford is this gem of a park: John Wearn Reserve.
The BBQ facilities are quite complete. There are several picnic shelters and BBQ facilities. There is a parking lot as well as street parking. It’s accessible and has restrooms.
Overall, it was still a great experience, with a vibe that feels like being in a tropical country. I didn’t realize there’s such a perfect kid-friendly park so close to home—definitely recommending it to everyone!
There’s free parking.
