We webnt to Springvale Market to stock up on seafood, then come play at nearby Waverley Park. Fully fenced playground, safety tick! There are 5 separate zones to play freely. Finally there’s a proper playground near Glen. The name is Waverley Park Lake Playground, just like the name says, there’s really a small lake in the middle. Waverley Park Lake Playground is absolutely amazing, can rival the Glen Huntly Playground.
Waverley Park Lake Playground reviews
The overall feeling the Waverley Park Lake Playground gives me is: big space, lots of activities, wide age coverage, and unlike some playgrounds that just look big but get boring quickly after one round, this one actually lets kids run back and forth many times. The most eye-catching is the very tall climbing tower in the middle, with a super long green tunnel slide, visually very striking, lots of kids run straight there as soon as they arrive.
Besides this big slide, there’s also a flying fox, water play area, huge sandpit, swings, trampoline, climbing ropes—basically from toddlers to primary school age, everyone can find something to play.
Especially suitable for families with kids of different ages. Younger ones can play sand, water and toddler swings, older ones will prefer climbing, flying fox and the big slide, so it’s less likely to have the situation where one is having fun and the other is bored the whole time.
This playground is fenced, which is really important when bringing little kids. Even though the space is big, you won’t have that stressful feeling of turning your head and your kid running far away. There’s also a lakeside path, grass area, BBQ and seating nearby. When the weather is good, it’s actually great for a picnic too, not the kind of place you just stay for half an hour and leave.
It’s also quite parent-friendly: there’s shade, seating, and surprisingly there’s even a café on site where you can buy coffee and simple food. When taking kids out, not needing to find another café is a big plus. And right next to it are toilets and a drinking water area, very convenient.

Of course, it’s crowded on weekends, kids’ll need to wait a bit for popular facilities, especially the big slide and flying fox. Also since it’s a large outdoor space, when it’s too sunny the heat feels quite strong. Although there are some shade sails, in summer midday it’s still better to go earlier or later.
Overall, this is a playground I’d happily bring my kids back to a second or third time. If you’re in the eastern suburbs, or just looking for an outdoor playground that’s not just one slide but can actually keep kids busy for a while, this is worth saving. Bring some BBQ food, there are grills right there.
If it’s our first time bringing kids to run wild, make sure to allow enough time—at least two hours, otherwise they absolutely won’t want to leave.
Two minutes away there’s also a skate park and climbing wall. You can ride bikes, scooters or just walk around. If the kids don’t want to leave, you can easily burn off a few hours.
Parking is plentiful, much more convenient than Glen Huntly. Parking: lots of free 4-hour street parking nearby. There are also toilets.
Honestly, apart from being too fun and attracting too many people, there are no downsides.
No need for a detailed address, just Google: Waverley Park Lake Playground. There’s a small lake with lots of ducks. When the weather is good, having a BBQ with friends and family is just too enjoyable.

There’s also a mobile ice cream truck. Not far from the park there’s a shopping area with WWS, Coles, Big W, and also Henry’s Mercato—we actually went there for this market.
