La La Falls Walk — I really love this name. It sounds just as lovely as La La Land! Finally had some free time, so we escaped the city and headed into the forest for some fresh air.
La La Falls Walk
If you have a car, I highly recommend this hiking trail. It’s an easy return walk that takes about an hour, with no overly steep sections, making it perfect for strolling, stopping, and taking photos along the way. Before the hike, we grabbed breakfast at Gladysdale Bakehouse, and afterwards we explored the little town of Warburton.
From the main street of Warburton, it’s only about a five-minute drive to La La Falls Carpark. The return walk is around 3 km, and the signs say it takes 1–1.5 hours. We stopped briefly at the waterfall before heading back, and the whole trip took us exactly one hour.
The entire walk is accompanied by the soothing sound of flowing water and birds chirping, which made it incredibly relaxing. The trail climbs uphill all the way to the waterfall and then follows the same path back, so it’s uphill on the way there and downhill on the return.
As someone who hasn’t done any proper exercise for almost six months, my heart rate climbed to nearly 160 on the uphill sections, so I wouldn’t exactly call it beginner-friendly. But if you’re not in a rush and take your time with plenty of stops, it’s totally manageable.
It’s only about a 1.5-hour drive from Melbourne, and if you’re coming from the eastern suburbs, it’s just over an hour away. You get to enjoy nature and browse vintage treasures around town, making it a great day trip for anyone worried that just one activity might be too boring. None of the attractions require an entry fee, and Warburton has plenty of places to eat and drink. It’s the kind of destination where you can wake up on a weekend morning, make a spontaneous decision, and just go.

It’s a relatively easy walk, with a return distance of 3.2 km and no major climbs. Taking your time and stopping here and there, the whole walk is around 1.5 hours. About half of the trail is shaded by trees, so it doesn’t get too hot.
Definitely remember to bring insect repellent — there are quite a lot of little bugs around.
Afterwards, you can also wander around Warburton town and grab something to eat.
Make sure you navigate to La La Falls Carpark, as the other entrance is currently closed.
