Explore 35 Unique Escape Rooms at Prison Island

Recently, we discovered a really interesting place: Prison Island in Fortitude Valley. Today we visited Prison Island in Fortitude Valley, and this place really kept surprising us! Its concept is similar to Hijinx Hotel, with a total of 35 rooms, each offering a different game. Compared to Hijinx, it’s more suitable for adults. This time we played 23 rooms, and it was incredibly fun. We can’t wait to come back and try to beat our scores!

Each room has a sign at the door showing the game’s requirements in terms of intelligence, strategy, and physical effort.

Prison Island game time

For adults, it costs about $50 per person, with 90 minutes of game time.

There’s no limit to how many rooms you can explore or how many times you can play each room.

A team must have at least two people, but 3–4 players is the optimal group size. Once you book your team and time on the official website, your adventure begins!

The venue provides free lockers to store your belongings (phones can be carried if you prefer). Staff then distribute each team’s keys and fobs, bring the “prisoners” into the courtroom, explain the rules and safety notes, and after that, it’s time to enter the prison!

Is Prison Island scary?

Upstairs, you can play any room you like. Prison Island isn’t scary. Once inside, you’ll be given a key card to unlock the different levels. Each level is usually a small challenge for 1–3 people, and you can replay them to improve your score. Some levels are physically demanding, like rock climbing. My friends and I aren’t very athletic or tall, so we decided to skip those. There are also puzzle challenges that require thinking, and getting them right gives a great sense of achievement!

The most fun level was a Disco challenge, with lights and music fully synced to the rhythm. Some challenges are physical, so everyone should wear sports shoes.

Each room has a maximum score of 100 points, and a large screen at the entrance shows team rankings and scores. You can also use your fob to quickly check your own score.

Timing starts as soon as you unlock the first room. After 90 minutes, the fob expires, time to escape! At the lobby, you can print a detailed summary of your game experience.

We suggest planning the order in which you play the rooms. We only realised after finishing that we had missed a whole area of rooms!

When time’s up, staff print all your scores, including how many times you played each room and your points. On our first visit, we got a perfect score in three rooms, while a few rooms had games we didn’t fully understand despite multiple attempts.

Overall we find the experience is really enjoyable, especially for friends or teams. Many rooms test teamwork and collaboration. We’d definitely consider coming back for a second or third visit, it’s just that much fun.

If you’re wondering where to go on the weekend, Prison Island is definitely worth checking out.
