Yumeji Japanese Retreat – Japanese Inn Experience

Yumeji Japanese Retreat

Have you ever imagined sitting on the floor, sipping tea, surrounded by deep wooden designs and Japanese sliding walls, where you can smell the fragrance of straw mats and see the texture of bamboo curtains? It’s serene, Zen-like, as if everything is a part of nature itself!

In the secluded mountains far from the hustle and bustle of the city, we discovered a place – Yumeji Japanese Retreat!

Yumeji Japanese Retreat – Things you need to know

Address: 16-20 St James Ct, Tamborine Mountain QLD 4272
Transportation: Approximately 74 km from Brisbane city, about 1 hour by car
Price: $290 per night, breakfast included

Located on Tamborine Mountain’s summit, offering a peaceful contrast to the continuous noise of city life. A fusion of traditional and modern styles, with a unique blend of Japanese and Australian elements. Here, you can enjoy a Japanese-style spa while stargazing, dressed in a yukata, simply indulging in this Japanese experience.

There is a sunken dining table with a fireplace, overlooking the courtyard garden.

Breakfast offers two options: traditional Japanese breakfast or typical Australian breakfast.

Breakfast is absolutely an highlight! We had breakfast together with the host staying in the other room. The restaurant is accompanied by a beautiful maple tree that occasionally drops half-red leaves, creating a fantastic atmosphere. There were three small bowls of side dishes and main courses like miso salmon, thick tamago-yaki (Japanese rolled omelet), large scallops, fried tofu, all beautifully presented, but definitely filling!

Three Room Types at Yumeji Japanese Retreat

Taki: Offers a view of the rainforest and a private spa.

Sakura: Provides views of both the rainforest and the sea, including a private spa.

Tsuru: Embraces a more traditional Japanese style, with tatami mats, low wooden tables, and a private hinoki wood bathtub.

Upon check-in, they provide a set of Japanese-style yukata robes. You can wear them in the room in the evening and during breakfast, creating a special atmosphere.

The bathroom is well thought out, equipped with shower caps, cotton swabs, and a hairdryer.

The room has air conditioning, and the bathroom has a heater, so those sensitive to the cold in winter can rest assured.
