Where to go Axe Throwing in Sydney
Kiss My Axe (Alexandria)
We went to Kiss My Axe located in Alexandria. It’s not very cheap, at $50 per person per hour, but it’s definitely worth the experience.
When we arrived, the staff gave us safety instructions and taught us some techniques. Then, we had about 15 minutes to try throwing axes ourselves to get familiar with it. During that time, the staff also gave us guidance.
After everyone was comfortable, the staff came over to teach us some fun games and compete with friends.
We’ve tried darts and archery before, but throwing axes is more fun and easier to get the hang of. The difference with throwing axes is that while darts and archery follow a simple parabolic trajectory, axes rotate constantly in the air.
So, even if you aim accurately, the handle may hit the wooden board, and the axe won’t stick to it. Therefore, in addition to the angle, you also need to calculate the rotation and distance in your head. But, after a few tries and practice, you’ll get the hang of it, and hit the target every time!
MANIAX Axe Throwing (Marrickville)
The shop has a motorcycle vibe, with various axe decorations filling the place! We reserved for two hours and suggest going in a group as it’s not as fun with fewer people. If there are many people, you can split into groups for competitive gameplay.
Before starting, staff will explain the precautions and guide you through a trial. There are two types of axes, long and short handles, available to choose from, and you can throw them with one or two hands. There are corresponding scores for each circle and the inner circle, and of course, you will get a high score if you hit the green dot on the target!
Personally, we don’t think the axe is heavy, and since you don’t throw it far, technique is more important than strength. You have to get the angle just right to hit the bullseye. Of course, after a few rounds, your arms will start feeling a bit sore!
It’s also a good choice for those who need to release some stress.
