Ballarat Wildlife Park – Experience the Wildlife

In Australia, how can you miss seeing kangaroos? Ballarat Wildlife Park was our last stop on the Great Ocean Road during our vacation. On the way back to Melbourne, we took a slightly longer route through Ballarat.

How long do you spend at Ballarat Wildlife Park

The park isn’t very big, however you can still spend about two hours just wandering around while petting the kangaroos. If you drive directly from Melbourne, it takes just over an hour.

When buying tickets, you can also purchase some paid activities, such as getting a photo with a koala. We arrived around 2 p.m. and only had the option of taking a photo with a snake but it was still exciting! Although the koalas were resting and we couldn’t pet them, we could get really close to them, which was great. Be sure to go early, they close at 5 pm!

Unique experience at Ballarat Wildlife Park

Don’t forget to buy a $4 bag of kangaroo food. You can buy kangaroo food at the entrance of the park. Once inside, there are kangaroos everywhere.

As soon as you enter the park, you’ll see kangaroos roaming around freely. We’ve seen wild kangaroos on the side of the road on the Great Ocean Road before, but they just hop away when they see a car. The kangaroos here aren’t afraid of people at all, and you can feed them and pet them. They’re very friendly, and with food in hand, they’ll even come up to you on their own! It’s fun to take pictures and videos with them. If it’s crowded at the entrance, you can walk a bit further inside. There are kangaroos all over the park and you’ll eventually get used to seeing them everywhere.

In addition to kangaroos, there are also some llamas in the park, but they’re very timid and always avoiding people. You can’t even feed them by chasing them with food!

The park also has many other interesting animals such as cute little penguins, giant turtles, and crocodiles. However, the most popular activity at the Ballarat wildlife park is definitely to pet kangaroos and see koalas. It’s definitely a 100 out of 100 experience!
