In the small town of Derby, Tasmania, there is a popular attraction where you can experience the only floating sauna house in Australia. We came across this floating sauna on a lake earlier and immediately fell in love with it.
Derby Lake Floating Sauna House
The Floating Sauna Lake Derby is the only floating sauna house in Australia. The wooden house is located on the tranquil Derby Lake and is a traditional wood-fired sauna house. Imagine sweating in the sauna and then jumping into the cold lake – it’s quite an exhilarating experience! Or you can soak in the lake first, and then head to the wood-fired sauna house for some heat therapy, and completely relax after a long day.
Getting out of the sauna and jumping into the lake was super refreshing.
Is it kids friendly?
We asked customer service and were told that children as young as 10 years old could enter, and the temperature could be adjusted accordingly. However, it could only be rented for private use at a cost of $225 per hour, and there could only be a maximum of 5 people inside, whether it’s a private rental or sharing with others.
The black hut is the sauna room, while the white one is the changing room, and there is no shower available.
How to get there?
You can walk or ride a bike from the town of Derby, and there is also a nearby parking lot where you can park and walk along the forest trail to reach the sauna house.
