Walker Reserve, Doncaster — Just Reopened After Its Upgrade
How new is it?
The little triangular survey flags on the grass next to it haven’t even been taken out yet.
Walker Reserve in Doncaster has just finished its expansion and upgrade. This small park in a residential pocket has a lot more worth stopping for now — a yellow-and-green cubby, a double slide built into the slope, and logs and rocks laid out following the shape of the land, turning the place into a small little exploration trail. Manningham Council’s own project page for the reserve confirms it: the upgrade followed a resident consultation in December 2025 and construction wrapped in 2026, on the back of the council buying two neighbouring properties on Clay Drive to expand the park’s footprint.
The double slide is the first thing you notice. Two pale green slides sit side by side on the slope, so a kid can take one side and a friend the other. It’s not high, so it’s easy for an adult to keep watch nearby.
The cafe cubby
The little yellow cafe next to it is properly cute too. Under the small window it says Café in earnest, and there’s even a menu for chips, ice cream and drinks. A kid can stand inside and be the boss, while the adults stand outside and order — a whole game of pretend, no props required. Step back out and there’s an orange car rocker right there, so today counts as driving to work too.
The log trail
If you like a bit more of a challenge, try the log trail. Thick timber posts stand at different heights, with logs laid flat and big rocks alongside them. Smaller kids will need a hand from an adult — it’s a little bit hard.
The climbing frame
Further along is the climbing frame, which tests strength more. A yellow climbing panel, a vertical rope net and a horizontal monkey ladder are all grouped together, so you can pick whichever side to climb. It’s a small patch of ground, but it leaves room for the kids with more energy to burn.
What else the upgrade added
This upgrade also added a drinking fountain, benches and picnic tables, and a paved path now connects Walker Street, Clay Drive and Arthur Street. Bring some fruit and snacks, and there’s somewhere to sit once everyone’s worn out. There’s no toilet block at Walker Reserve itself, so plan around that if you’re out for a while — the nearest facilities are back toward Doncaster’s shopping strip.
Hepburn Reserve, a few minutes further
If they’re not done yet, it’s a few minutes’ walk to nearby Hepburn Reserve on Hepburn Road, about 200 metres away. It has a climbing net and a sandpit with a digger in it — a different kind of play to keep burning energy. Stringing the two little parks together makes for a good outing without having to load everyone back into the car in between.
