Why is it called “Little Switzerland”? Because this small town was developed by a group of Swiss immigrants who built unique houses with the architectural style of their hometown in this picturesque mountainous area facing the sea. Later, new residents followed this tradition and gradually, the entire Montville was built into a Swiss-style mountain town with a strong cultural flavour.
Unique Things to Do in Montville
There are many unique shops in this mountainous town, such as handmade chocolate shops, puzzle shops, art galleries and toy stores. The houses, small shops, and roads in the entire town are of Nordic style. For those who want to find photo spots and photography locations, don’t miss it! After a tired day of wandering, it is very comfortable to have afternoon tea in the town’s cafe.
The clock shop truly lives up to its reputation. Upon entering, there is a sense of a medieval small shop. The bird sounds that are restored 100% when the clocks chime are so realistic that it’s hard to distinguish them from the real thing. The experience is excellent.
There are many interesting exhibits and artworks at Montville Art Gallery, and many souvenir shops nearby sell items in the same style as the exhibits. The dessert at Luxury Sweets and Chocolate Country is delicious and the how they are displayed is beautiful. Those who go there will know.

Getting to Montville
It takes a two-hour drive to reach this “Swiss” town. Public transportation is a little bit inconvenient, so driving is highly recommended. From the Brisbane CBD, take the M1 for about two hours (pay attention to the toll station, or avoid it altogether) to arrive directly in the town.
