Thornleigh Brickpit Playground

Thornleigh Brickpit Playground

We took the kids out to the Thornleigh Brickpit Playground this afternoon. Honestly, you can see everyone is thrilled. It was crowded upon our arrival — and there isn’t much shade yet, so I expect it to get hot and sticky during summer — but how about everything else? Very good. This aquatic play area is certainly a must-add to your vacation itinerary if you happen to be nearby.

The playground completed its renovation in the 2 years ago. There is a Ninja Warrior course, a water play area, a zip line, and lots more activities for children to climb on. It feels like there is something special at every corner.

Thornleigh Brickpit Playground reviews

Starting out with the Ninja Warrior obstacle course — our two eldest couldn’t get enough of it. It includes climbing, balancing, and agility activities, along with a solar-powered timer allowing children to track their speed. Our group were there for almost an hour, competing against one another and bursting into laughter whenever anyone fell off the balance beam.

Another thing that’s quite interesting: the play area genuinely references its history. This park was formerly a brick factory, and close to the entrance, there is a masonry wall constructed with heritage bricks given by local collectors. It’s a charming small touch that gives everything a more local vibe.

Just a heads up: little shade available or places to sit. If you intend to stay for some time, choose a cooler, overcast day, or bring hats and sunscreen just in case. The Ninja Warrior timed race is certainly the main attraction the kids talk about the most — there is an actual timer they can activate on their own, and the last obstacle is tough! Trousers are useful to protect the knees, but that did not prevent them from repeatedly trying.

All that surrounds the play area is completely new and appears excellent. There is also a golf practice range, basketball court, and skate area right next door, so you can easily spend an entire day moving around. On the opposite side of the street, there is a designated dog walking zone. Our little one enjoyed dividing his time between playing at the playground and observing the dogs — he had fallen asleep in the car before we drove off the street.

If you feel hungry, Beecroft Town Centre is the nearest place to eat. In that area, you can find Woolworths, sushi, several cafes, and an Italian restaurant named Positano offering an attractive $12 lunch deal and a coffee deal with bacon and egg.

Overall, these are the features that stood out to us:

  • The splash zone — ideal for expending energy and refreshing oneself, however the surface becomes slick, which is why water shoes are a wise choice.
  • The bank slide, which is long and zippy. The steps beside it are slightly uneven, so keep watch on the small ones.
  • The Ninja Warrior course — pure fun if your kids love to climb and challenge themselves.
  • Climbing ropes and trampoline jumping — additional spots for bouncing and swinging.
  • The entire playground is completely enclosed, so you need not be concerned about children running away.
  • Shaded picnic seating is available too, but make sure to bring snacks and drinks since the sun can get very strong.

If you visit on a hot day, definitely don’t forget sunscreen, hats, and lots of water. The water area is honestly the highlight — the kids won’t want to leave.

Thornleigh Brickpit Playground is at 1A Dartford Rd, Thornleigh NSW 2120. Parking’s right at the entrance.

If you want to stretch out the day, there are some great parks nearby for a picnic or another round of play:

  • Beecroft Train Park: Small, but you can watch the trains go by, which is perfect for transport-obsessed kiddos.
  • Beecroft Village Green: This one’s new, shady, and next to the tennis courts. Parking’s better if you use the side streets behind the courts.
  • Ruddock Park in Westleigh: Another popular playground — this one’s great if your crew is on a real playground marathon.

All up, we spent a solid afternoon here, the kids had a blast, and nobody wanted to leave. It’s a top spot for families, especially when the weather plays nice.

Parking is very easy — there is a parking lot directly in front and lots of spots. Restrooms are located just outside.
