Tokyo’s renowned Sebastian Kakigori, led by chef Hiroshi Kawamata, finally opens its first Melbourne store at Melbourne CT after last year’s pop-up success! Compared to the previous pop-up, several new flavours have been added.
They’re the first to introduce the Japanese shaved ice concept to Melbourne, even before Kumo Pancakes or Fuwa Kakigori, and it’s authentically Japanese shaved ice!
Surprisingly, the ice used for making Japanese shaved ice is imported from Japan. This crystal-clear pure ice is produced by the Kuramoto Ice Company in Kanazawa, Japan. Using special machines, the ice blocks are light and fluffy, just like freshly fallen snow.
Things we tried
For dine-in, we chose the Coffee Chocolate Rum flavour. Topped with waffle crisps and you can even taste bits of orange peel inside! The layers are rich, but they blend together just right. It’s refreshing and sweet. With one spoonful in your mouth, you exhale a burst of white mist.
Happy Pistachio Shaved Ice is not too sweet or heavy.
If you like Cheese you can try their Japanese Rare Cheese Shaved Ice, the Cheese sauce is incredibly delicious.
Currently, there are 5 flavours available for dine-in and 3 for takeaway. If you don’t want to wait in line for a seat, takeaway is still very convenient.
Got addicted after trying it at Leonie’s Upstairs pop-up store for the first time. Prices are a bit steep but definitely worth it!
