Bubble Retreats – Staying in a Bubble

Bubble Retreats - Staying in a Bubble

We happened to come across this bubble house that we’ve always wanted to visit over the weekend and managed to experience it since there was availability. Overall, we feel the experience was quite good. Wilsons Prom and Tarra Bulga aren’t too far away, although it might not be suitable for everyone.

What we think

Staying in the bubble house is quite romantic, with a nice scenery of the sea, rolling hills, and windmills in the distance. It’s undisturbed and perfect for relaxation and contemplation. At night, you can lie in bed and gaze at the stars.

There are many places to explore nearby. From Wilsons Prom to the bubble house to Agnes Falls the next day and finally Tarra Bulga.

There are only two bubble houses and a farm on the hill. We didn’t encounter anyone after going up, just the sheep! There’s a hill between the two bubble houses, so they can’t see each other. If you’re worried about being seen from outside, there are curtains by the bed that you can pull.

Despite being small, everything is well-equipped, from the shower room, washbasin, to the refrigerator, microwave, and Bluetooth music player.

Things to consider

The indoor temperature is heavily influenced by the outdoor conditions, after all, it’s a fully transparent bubble. We checked in about an hour before sunset. There’s a portable air conditioner inside, so you can turn it on during hot days and switch to the heater at night, which feels okay. But if you’re sensitive to temperature, it might not be suitable.

Noise and light are inevitable. There’s a fan-like device underground to maintain the shape of the bubble, and if you keep the air conditioner on throughout the night, there will be some noise. As for light, there are no curtains on the top. Light sleepers might not find it suitable, but the host provides earplugs, and wearing an eye mask might help. For us, we slept fine.

You need to bring your own food up the hill or buy it in Toora, the nearest town at the foot of the mountain. Food options in this town are limited; we had pizza. Heating your own food directly in the microwave might be better!
