Darling Harbour playground day! The weather was finally not too cold, so we took our kid to play at Darling Harbour Playground.

Darling Quarter recently opened a really nice new outdoor playground designed for older kids, and it’s actually pretty good!
Today was all about “hands-off parenting mode” — we took Happy to Darling Quarter for some water play.
This neighbourhood park really understands families with kids. There’s a specially designed water play area where kids from 0–12 can all find something fun. Even babies just a few months old were there with their parents, gently splashing and getting close to nature — the whole scene felt really healing and calm.
A lot of people worry about kids catching a chill from water play, but in Sydney’s sunshine there’s really no need to stress. We just wore sun-protective clothing, played under the sun the whole time, and stayed completely relaxed — didn’t even bring a jacket.
Right next to it is the always-crowded original playground, so families coming into the city to let kids run around can definitely check both out.
The playground at Darling Harbour Playground is huge and honestly feels like a must-visit when in Sydney. Because there are water play areas, it’s important to bring a change of clothes and towels.
We didn’t stay long in the big splash zone — the two of them quickly ran off to another area with lots of different water features instead. I didn’t even notice that section last year. The water is quite clean too, and they played the whole day with no issues. I really wish more places back home had play areas like this.
Last year we only came here once because it was Christmas and way too hot. This year it was much cooler, but luckily their swimwear was long-sleeved. Speaking of the swimwear, it actually blended so well with the sea and sky that I could barely spot the kids in the water. Next time I’ll definitely buy brighter colours so they’re easier to find.
Food-wise, there are so many options nearby. That day we had McDonald’s, and later I brought Remy back again and we went to eat Thai food at Doodee King — he instantly fell in love with Thai cuisine after that.
It’s just so convenient here. Food, ice cream, everything is within walking distance… basically a perfect place for a full day out with kids.
