NGV's New Exhibition: Dreamy Underwater World - RIFIFI:Jean Jullien for Kids

Don’t know where to take the kids for a weekend stroll in Melbourne? You should check out the NGV Children’s new exhibition!

The children’s gallery transforms with murals and large paper cutouts cleverly combining humour, playfulness, and a positive perspective to express the artist’s thoughts and worldview.

This NGV children’s dreamy underwater world immersive exhibition is curated and created by French artist Jean Jullien. The author hopes that Rififi will attract our little ocean explorers, teaching them to love and respect the ocean.

You and your kids can come here to encounter a rich variety of marine life and explore coral reefs and precious natural wonders up close as if immersed in a dreamy underwater world. Enjoy the immersive experience, swim through it, and enhance children’s environmental awareness. It’s not just for kids; adults can come to relive their childhood!

The experience

The highlight is the ocean-themed exhibition area that focuses on marine environmental protection. Whether for adults or children, the moment we step into the exhibition area feels like entering a fairy-tale underwater world.

The exhibition area offers numerous interactive games.

Ocean creature dress-up area: Several simple fish-themed outfits, like overalls, are available for children to wear, making them look adorable!

Simulated ocean creature sound area: Children can step on different ocean creatures, and each one produces a different sound!

Trash recycling area: Children can receive a small metal token at the entrance and start their journey to protect the ocean. Many decorated corals or small fish have garbage cards inside. Children can pick up the garbage cards, put them in a small metal bucket, and then throw them into the recycling bin. The recycling bin provides voice encouragement to the children!

Ocean painting area: Centred around an octopus, there are several drawing tables scattered around. Children can choose ocean-shaped paper and brushes to create beautiful memories of this marine adventure.
