Melbourne Werribee Open Range Zoo Play Guide

werribee zoo in melbourne

Are you planning to visit the Werribee Open Range Zoo in Melbourne? This is where you can get up close to wild animals by taking an open-air Safari Bus. It’s also a great place for children to visit, and we’ve put together some tips below.

Werribee Zoo Tickets Price

You can buy tickets for the Werribee Open Range Zoo on their official website or at the gate. The specific prices and website link are included here. The adult ticket costs $42, the student ticket costs $31.5, and children under 16 years old can enter for free on weekends and school holidays! The ticket includes admission to the zoo and also a free ride on the regular Safari Bus, which tours the grasslands where herbivorous animals roam. After the tour, you need to walk to the carnivorous animal area.

However, you can also get your special Safari Tour ticket from Get Your Guide, which includes a guide and admission. This type of ticket costs about the same as the regular ticket on the official website. You can compare prices on other platforms like Expedia.

What to do at Werribee Zoo

When you enter the zoo, you can head straight to the Safari Station and take the sightseeing bus. You’ll see many African grassland animals, such as giraffes, zebras, antelopes, water buffalo, black rhinoceroses, miniature kangaroos, ostriches, and more!

After about an hour, you’ll return to the starting station and then walk to various closed areas to see fiercer animals like lions, gorillas, hippos and pythons. The zoo is actually quite large, so you’ll need to walk around. There’s also an activity area for children.

Werribee Zoo opening hours

During holidays, the zoo opens from 9:00 to 17:00. You can check the opening hours anytime on Google Maps or the various ticketing websites below for your convenience.

How to get to Werribee Zoo

Driving is still the most convenient way to get there. However, you can also take public transportation. For example, you can take a train from Flinders Street Station to Werribee Station, then use a Myki card or buy a one-way ticket to take bus 439 directly to the zoo.

Additional tips

Feeding or touching animals is not allowed, and pets are not allowed in the zoo. Smoking is prohibited inside the zoo. Don’t forget to bring your sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen, and bring enough water and snacks. It’s also recommended to bring insect repellent as there are many mosquitoes!

Address: K Rd, Werribee South VIC 3030
