Matcha Japanese Soufflé Brunch in Sydney

Finally the weekend arrived. Sydney has been having non-stop rainy days, but that definitely can’t stop the determination to go out for a pretty brunch! Since we couldn’t enjoy a sunny outdoor brunch, it was the perfect chance to visit a Japanese soufflé brunch café that had been on my list for a long time.

Issho Cafe – What to Order

Located right next to the Haymarket Chinatown light rail station. The dessert display at the entrance looks like something straight out of a Japanese anime. Their coffee uses ONA coffee beans.

We ordered: Chilli Carbonara Wagyu Katsu, Chicken Katsu Sando and Matcha Tiramisu Soufflé.

The “pasta” in the carbonara is actually udon noodles, which was quite interesting.

We chose mild spice, and even that little bit of chilli oil was very fragrant. Next time I’ll try the spicier version.

The Chicken Katsu Sando was very tasty. The fried chicken was juicy and the sauce inside was great. It would be even better if they trimmed the bread edges.

The soufflé was super soft and fluffy, served with matcha cream and mochi on the side. It wasn’t overly sweet or heavy, and the portion was perfect for two people to share! The soufflé itself was a bit sweet (it even had meringue on top), but the ice cream had a slightly bitter taste that balanced it well. Adding the $5 matcha ice cream is highly recommended.

My friend said the blueberry flavour wasn’t as sweet as the apple flavour, so if you don’t like very sweet desserts, blueberry might be a good option.

The matcha milk drink with cream felt a bit heavy towards the end. Without the cream it might be better. Their drink wasn’t as good as Matcha-Ya in Darling Square, which specialises in matcha.

Overall

This café is known for its matcha desserts! When visiting the store, there were a lot of people dining in and many takeaway orders.

The desserts mainly include soufflés and toast, with many flavour options. The soufflé itself is definitely worth trying.
