Long Ridge Lookout

Long Ridge Lookout

Every week we want to get out and about, but not go too far. Want to see the city from above, but don’t want to go to Mount Osmond or Mount Lofty Summit again and again? Then you need to check out Long Ridge Lookout! It’s close to the city and the views are beautiful. There were also several families of kangaroos sunbathing by the side of the track.

Long Ridge Lookout Walk

Today we basically did a huge loop across Cleland Conservation Park.

We started climbing from Waterfall Gully at 11:30. From Waterfall Gully Park we followed the Yurrebilla Trail and Billba Track to Cleland Wildlife Park, then continued along Long Ridge Track to the lookout. On the way down, we didn’t retrace our steps but took a narrow and steep track down to Chambers Gully instead.

From Chambers Gully Carpark, it’s about an hour and a half return to Long Ridge Lookout. Half of the trail is very steep and narrow and can be a little dangerous. The views at the top are beautiful, and the descent felt surprisingly quick. By the time we got back to Waterfall Gully, it was already 5:00 pm.

Personally, we felt this route was a bit too long and tiring, especially the section from Waterfall Gully up to Cleland Wildlife Park. It was almost all uphill, very steep, and the scenery wasn’t something we felt was absolutely worth the effort. Surprisingly, the return through Chambers Gully was the highlight. There were layered hills, flowing creeks, and a peaceful forest atmosphere that felt calm and refreshing. So if you’re planning to visit this lookout, we recommend setting your destination to 📍Chambers Gully Park and hiking up to the lookout from there. It will save a lot of time and energy.

Long Ridge Lookout review

There are many hiking trails throughout Cleland Conservation Park, so on a nice weekend, grab some friends or family and enjoy a walk through the bush, leaving behind the dust and worries of everyday life.
