Finding the best After School Activities for Kids

kids after school activity

Do Australian primary school students attend extracurricular classes after school? The answer is yes! But most parents choose to enrol their children in sports courses. They also ask each other what classes their children are taking and how they feel about them. Australia is a country that loves sports, so children have been active from a young age!

Australian students go to school from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. Many parents enrol their children in different extracurricular classes after school, such as swimming, diving, gymnastics, and dance, as the basic courses. For older children, they may take up golf, tennis, and other sports. When children become proficient in a sport, parents become even busier because they have to send their children for training before school in the morning. Therefore, Australian athletes are extremely passionate about their sport! Only with true love can they wake up at 5 or 6 in the morning to train and continue training after school. “No pain, no gain” is the same everywhere.

Other popular after school activities for kids

Visit local parks, playgrounds and libraries

First of all, every local community has facilities such as parks, playgrounds, libraries, swimming pools, shopping centres, and supermarkets that can be explored after school.

For example, libraries often have story time open to the public, parks have free BBQ grills and play equipment, and swimming pools usually have large water slides. Plus, there are fewer people compared to other places. These free resources should be fully utilised.

Visit Museums and Art Galleries

Visiting various art galleries, museums, and other attractions is definitely a must. After arriving, you can also check the local ticketing website to see if there are any good plays or musicals currently playing such as Mamma Mia! and School of Rock, the MOMA exhibition, and the opera Madama Butterfly just to name a few!

Sightseeing

You can plan some sightseeing routes based on your interests every weekend or holiday. For example, if you are in Melbourne you can visit the Penguin Island, the zoo, the steam train, the Victoria market, or take a day trip around the city. You can also arrange for your kids to participate in the local scouting camp, allowing them to spend two days and one night outdoors with other children. Parents can also relax and have a weekend without kids by visiting wineries, Sunday markets, flea markets, and more!
