Are you looking for an easy and affordable way to explore the sights around Perth? The answer might be to rent an “electric scooter”! In this article, we will introduce you to where you can rent electric scooters, how to rent them, whether it is expensive, how to operate them, and other related information. So, let’s take a look!

E-scooter trial in Perth

Perth has introduced shared electric Scooters, so how’s everyone’s experience so far? Currently, Perth has introduced 500 shared electric scooters and even added a pilot program at Kings Park, making transportation much more convenient.

However, pedestrian malls and Forrest Place will be off-limits for riders. The trial will cover Perth CBD, Northbridge, East Perth, West Perth, Claisebrook, and Crawley.

How to hire and use the e-scooter?

The e-scooter has a QR code that guides you to download the Neuron app. Once you’ve downloaded the app, you can scan the QR code again to unlock the scooter and ride away. Of course, the first time you use it, you will be prompted to link a payment method, such as a credit card, PayPal, or Apple Pay. If you’re concerned about choosing, visit this PayPal vs credit card resource to help decide which payment option suits you best. For tourists, we suggest purchasing a Neuron Pass, which is much cheaper!

Finally, after riding, just click “End Ride” in the app and take a photo to complete the process.

When riding, there will be voice prompts in areas where you need to slow down or cannot ride. The scooter will automatically slow down or stop, so just plan your route beforehand.

How much to hire an e-scooter in Perth?

For every minute of use, Bird will charge 45 cents, and Neuron will charge 51 cents.

What are the rules?

Electric scooters will only be allowed to operate on roads with a maximum speed of 50 km/h and a maximum speed of 25 km/h. The maximum speed for riders on sidewalks will be limited to 10 km/h.

Geofencing technology ensures that electric scooters will only operate in certain areas, including Hay Street Mall, Murray Street Mall, Forrest Place, and Kings Park.

Riders must be at least 16 years old and always wear a helmet, and each electric scooter can only be used by one person at a time.
